As I write we’re getting ready for the Jack Berry House Christmas Fair on Friday 9th December. I hope many of you will get the chance to pop along and see our stand as well as the many other stand holders attending the event. This is a great opportunity to help support the good work that Jack Berry House continues to offer our racing community. The event runs from 3 pm to 8 pm and even if you’re way ahead of the game and done all your Christmas shopping, why not come and enjoy a mince pie and mulled wine with some festive cheer.
Last month we firmed up our sponsored riders for the new Point to Point season. We’ll continue to sponsor Chris Dawson but I’m pleased to write that we have agreed a deal with John Dawson, Chris’ brother. As two prolific riders in the Yorkshire area we are looking forward to following them this season.
We have been sponsoring Chris Dawson for 3 years. Chris continues to train and has around 16 horses under his care. All bar one are unraced homebreds so hopefully he can produce another exciting prospect such as Roll the Dough and Steely Addition. His main aim for the season is to stay in one piece! He is currently on 123 winners including 14 under rules.
John, won the Yorkshire Area P2P Men’s Championship in 2012. He turned professional a couple of years ago, and successfully rode 14 winners over 2 seasons. John has now returned to the amateur ranks and together with his wife Alice trains 8 point to pointers. John is also riding for Keith Reveley following James Reveley’s full time move to race in France. We’ll be following John’s progress as he aims to become champion amateur and Yorkshire Area men’s champ in 2017.
I am also delighted to report that we’ll continue to sponsor flat jockey Jack Garritty. Jack has had 25 winners and 340 rides in his first full season as a professional, with his biggest win at York on ‘Vona’ in a listed race. He currently stands at 27 wins this season (January to January) and Jack hopes to take his tally to 30 – an excellent season.
Chris, John and Jack will continue to fly the flag for White Rose Saddlery and we will be following their progress with regular mentions in our blog, throughout the next 12 months.
For 20 years White Rose Saddlery has sponsored the Yorkshire Area Ladies Point to Point title and for 9 of those years we have presented the title to Jackie Coward. This year was Jackie’s last title as she swaps her jockey boots for her trainer’s shoes. Jackie has had an outstanding career for many years riding over 150 winners and she is a great ambassador for the sport. We all wish her continued success in her new training role.
Our trade stand heads up to Alnwick on 11th December for the Ratcheugh Racing Club’s Point to Point. We love going to Northumberland and it will be Rosie’s first visit. We will be watching the weather forecast carefully and Rosie has her own jacket for what could be a cold outing!
I will be attending the ‘Go Racing in Yorkshire’ end of season dinner on 15th December to present an award to this year’s Champion Apprentice Rowan Scott. We sponsor £500 worth of racing equipment to the apprentice who has accumulated the most points at Yorkshire Racecourses throughout the flat season. Rowan is attached to Ann Duffields yard and we often see him when he has rides at Beverley.
I’m sure thoughts are beginning to turn to Christmas. We have a great range of gifts and for something very special try one of our bespoke personalised gifts which can be embroidered with racing colours or logos; ties, bathrobes, coats, jackets and even towel bales. Our final day for embroidery is 19th December but contact us early to avoid disappointment. Final posting day for Christmas is 21st December.
Wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
